It’s been a while since I last posted about Fun Photos 2.0, so I’d like to start today by talking a bit about our new non-destructive photo editor. It’s taking a lot longer than we anticipated and right now it’s almost been completely re-written. In fact huge chunks of the program were pulled out and tossed into a virtual garbage can, while we custom designed and developed new slicker, more flexible and faster parts.

If you’re a member of the Funtastic Photo Flickr Group [Click Here To Visit The Funtastic Photos Flickr Group] you’ll have seen that I have been trying to reproduce a Split ND Filter [Click Here For Information On A Split ND Filter]. With this information and the examples on the page, I set about trying to reproduce it. My prototype is far from exact and it almost blows out the foreground, however the results are very impressive. See the examples below. I tried it on many other photos and really works better on landscape photos. Download it and give it a try. Unfortunately several people are getting crashes when they try to run the Mac Photo Editing Software Funtastic Photos 1.0.1, a couple of people have reported an error occurring while the splash screen opens. While one customer has reported it occurs in the ThumbnailGenerator. I have posted a new preview release today with the tracking enabled so that hopefully I can narrow these down and fix’em! I’m really unhappy about these problems, because they don’t happen in our lab and they don’t happen for our testers, but when we ship… I guess we may want to do a public test version for 1.1?
