Get more battery life from your camera
Today’s blog posting is actually a bunch of tips that I’ve heard and discovered, that can help to conserve battery life on your camera. Some of these tips won’t apply to all camera’s, but hopefully there’s something below that’ll help you squeeze a few more photos out of your battery!
1) If your camera features a viewfinder, turning off the huge LCD (or switching to the viewfinder) will help conserve battery life.
2) If your camera features image stabilization, most of them offer several options. One of these options will enable the image stabilization all the time, which is a drain on the battery. While the option to enable only when the shutter button is pressed, will save you battery life. Sometimes this is called the “Shooting” mode or “Mode 2″. If you’re taking shots only using a tripod, switching it off altogether can save juice.

3) Most modern cameras have energy saving modes, where they’ll switch off the screen after a period of inactivity. If you enable that mode and set the time to around a couple of minutes, it’ll turn off the screen while you’re walking around looking for the photo opportunity.
4) If your camera supports Manual Focus and has a focus button (so it can be used to auto focus when the button is pressed), switch it to that mode and this will stop the camera Auto focusing until you really need it to.
5) Never use the cable to download your photos. That’s right, cut it up, throw it away, it’s nothing but an evil device! You see the cable requires that the camera be switched on while you download your photos, so it sucks juice from your batteries. Instead either purchase an external USB card reader, or if you have a laptop, you can get an adaptor that’ll fit neatly in the side, allowing you to read memory cards (without having another thing in your laptop bag).

6) Buy a second battery and keep it in your camera bag or pocket. There’s nothing worse than running out of battery right when you need it!

Hope these tips help and if you’ve got some that I missed, please feel free leave them in the comments, tweet me or use the contact us page.
