Relocating the Funtastic Photos Library/Docs Folder

Friday, May 15th, 2009

One of the new features of Funtastic Photos 1.0.5 is the ability to re-locate the Funtastic Photos Library (or Documents Folder). This feature is useful for a lot of people, except the help documentation never got updated on time!

However the online Help document now reflects this feature addition and can be found by visiting the support section on our site. http://www.ohanaware.com/support/

Funtastic Photos 1.0.5

Friday, May 15th, 2009

So on Wednesday we updated Funtastic Photos to version 1.0.5.
This latest release of Funtastic Photos has undergone optimization, resulting in faster performance for the overall product. Customers using PowerMac G5s have noticed the biggest improvement. We’ve added the ability to re-locate the Funtastic Photos documents folder. Simply hold down the option key while starting Funtastic Photos, a dialog will appear allowing the user to select, or create a new documents folder. Double clicking Funtastic Photos documents in the Finder, now works correctly. Funtastic Photos will now alert the user when the permissions are incorrect on the users documents folder. Fixed a minor bug that could occur with accidently clicking on the Documents Name. Fixed a bug that was causing some images to be over-saturated when exported or shared. Temporarily removed the ability to generate thumbnails for movies until further notice.

tip: Use more RAW formats with Funtastic Photos

Story: So you’ve got a shiny new digital camera and it’s really amazing, and it saves photos in RAW format. Now comes the time you want to use that photo in Funtastic Photos… The trouble is that this new RAW format doesn’t work! In fact all you can use is the slow and horrible software that came with the camera.

This is a scenario that a couple of customers have come across, shiny new camera’s with shiny new RAW format. Funtastic Photos uses Apple’s Image IO Kit, which means that we support RAW images when Apple update their Image IO Kit. However that may not be fast enough.

Solution: It’s not perfect, but it can help, Adobe DNG converter. This little FREE program gets updated fairly regularly and will convert a vast array of different RAW formats into Adobe’s DNG format. Once your RAW image is convert to DNG… You can use it in Funtastic Photos (and other applications).
