Non Destructive Opinion

When we first launched Funtastic Photos we received a rather interesting comment on one web site. The comment read as follows.

That’s NOT non destructive editing. That’s just a revert from saved (or original prior to editing). I wish all these companies would stop using this silly marketing phrase. Non destructive editing is only going to come about in a Raw converter which builds virgin pixels from data that’s not altered itself. Any pixel editing is destructive (due to rounding errors).

We just let the poster enjoy his quickfire few moments of fame, and left it at that. However his comment has had a minor negative effect. A handful of people want to validate what we say verses what he says. He doesn’t appeared to have either read our website or tried the product. As his statement is sadly incorrect.

While there is no official guidelines or statement in regards to the term ‘non-destructive’ editing, there is a common understanding across many parties. The easiest way to explain is this, non-destructive editing allows you to make changes to the photo without ever altering the original photo data, this is more than simply reverting the photo. Destructive photo editing is when the changes you make to the photo are permanent. iWatermark uses a destructive mechanism to imprint watermarks on to photos, however in iWatermark’s case you don’t want the watermark removed!

Back to Non-destructive Photo Editing, This amazing technology allows non-permenant manipulations to made to a photo, these changes can then be altered or removed at any time. This applies to blurring, captions, color manipulations, borders & frames, matte, blending, rotation, levels, digital flash, shadows, highlights, contrast, saturation, water drops, reflections, greyscale, sepia and many more. As the changes are non-permenant, the edited photo can easily be ‘rewound’ back to its original state, no matter how much editing has taken place or even when the editing took place.

I hope this helps explain a few things.
