Beginning with the Browser

On open Funtastic Photos shows the Browser. The Browser is the best way to find images to work on. It contains all kinds of features to make it easier to finding the correct image. On the very first launch the browser will show the pictures folder. It will most likely look slightly different than the picture below, because it depends on the contents of a folder called "Pictures" within the home folder.

browserPicturesFolder

On the left hand side of the browser is a sidebar, it is very similar to the sidebar found in Apple Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard), iPhoto, iTunes and other software. In the Funtastic Photos Sidebar, it will list your iPhoto Library, connected disks and places that Funtastic Photos think are of interest when it comes finding photos. The image below contains the sidebar in various states, first showing the iPhoto library, second with the iPhoto library minimized to show the devices & places, lastly all the options are minimized.

browserSideBarStates

To the right of the sidebar is the icon area, between the icon area and the toolbar lies the path bar. The path bar makes it easy to see what is currently visible in the icon area, it allows you to step thought the path and to navigate back to places you have already been.

browserPathBar

  1. For this tutorial we are going to choose an image from the Apple desktop pictures on the hard disk. In the side bar click, under devices click on the second icon under the header "Devices". If no icons are visible and the triangle next to Devices points to the right, click on the triangle so it points down. If devices isn’t visible in the sidebar, the scrollbar next to the sidebar might need to be used until Devices is visible.

  3. The icon view will then change and should resemble the screen shot below, double click on the icon "Library".
  4. browserIconViewLibraryHighlighted

  5. When it opens there will be a whole lot of icons, one of the quickest ways to find an icon is to use the Search field in the bottom right hand corner of the window.
  6. browserDesktopPicturesSearchField

  7. Type "Desktop Pictures" into the search field and the "Desktop Pictures" folder should highlight. Once it does double click it to open it. Now either scroll the icon view (using the scrollbar to the right) or use the search field to find the folder "Plants". Again double click it to open it.
  8. browserDesktopPicturesPlantsSelected

  9. Within the Plants folder locate an image called "Grass Blades", double click this image to open it into the editor. the prgress indicator should appear letting you know that the image "Grass Baldes" is being Opened.
  10. browserLoadingGrassBlades

  11. When it has opened, the interface will slide across to reveal the editor in it glory. It should look like the screen shot below.
  12. editorOpenedWithGrass

  13. Now that you have opened an image into the editor, you have reached the end of this tutorial.
